FREMONT — The California Highway Patrol issued a Sig-alert blocking all southbound Interstate 880 lanes as part of an unspecified investigation Tuesday. The CHP issued the alert at 11:08 a.m., and updated it at 12:33 p.m. to all southbound lanes at Mission Boulevard. Those lanes were partly closed for several hours Saturday in the wake of a fatal weekend shooting that claimed the life of a 5-year-old girl sitting in a family’s car headed to a birthday dinner at a local steakhouse.According to a social-media post Monday, the CHP said victims of that shooting approached an officer with its San Jose office around 6:40 p.m. Saturday to report the shooting. By Shawn Mizelle | CNNTennessee Republican Gov. Bill Lee on Tuesday urged the state’s legislature to pass additional gun control measures, an especially charged subject in a state that recently suffered a school shooting and the acrimonious expulsion of two Black Democratic lawmakers who called for greater firearm restrictions.“I’m asking the General Assembly to bring forward an order of protection law. A new strong order of protection law will provide the broader population cover, safety, from those who are a danger to themselves or the population,” Lee said at a news conference, adding that he would like legislators to pass the legislation within the current legislative session, which ends in a few weeks. The governor said specifics for the order of protection plan had yet to be determined but encouraged lawmakers from both parties to work together on the matter. It is unclear if the Tennessee House and Senate, which are both GOP-led by a wide margin, will br...'Death of Downtown' study: San Francisco ranks last

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- San Francisco ranked dead-last in a nationwide study examining why some American cities are bouncing back, and other are dying. "With the initial shock of the pandemic, downtowns emptied out. Even as life has gradually returned to malls and neighborhood commercial corridors, the urban core is no longer a bustling center of activity. This trend has led many to wonder: is this finally the death of downtown?" states the study written by the Institute of Governmental Studies public policy research center.Walking around San Francisco's downtown looks, and feels, starkly different compared to pre-COVID times. Why is it taking so long for people to return back to downtown SF? IGS researchers said the city's tech workers, tech-heavy economy, and difficult long commutes are partially to blame. In 2021, a Texas intelligence command center disseminated a bulletin warning its law enforcement partners about activists interested in sabotaging fossil fuel infrastructure. The report detailed no specific threat, but instead linked to an interview with Andreas Malm, a Swedish professor of human ecology, on a New Yorker podcast in which he advocated for the destroying or “neutralizing” new fossil fuel projects like pipelines using nonviolent methods. Now, Malm’s work is once again drawing the attention of a fusion center. “How to Blow Up a Pipeline,” a new movie dramatizing Malm’s 2021 nonfiction book of the same name, sympathetically depicts the infrastructure sabotage by environmentalists. The film’s fictional protagonist, Theo, contracts leukemia after growing up in a Long Beach neighborhood with heavy pollution. She joins several others to strap a homemade bomb to an oil pipeline in West Texas. In a report disseminated last week, another intelligence command center — this time in...Inter wins 2-0 at Benfica in Champions League quarterfinals
