WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) - Congress only has until mid-November to pass a government funding plan. Right now, the Senate is out of town and the House is consumed with choosing a new speaker, which is causing concern about how lawmakers are going to pass a budget. As Congress once again races the clock, several Republican senators are frustrated that they aren't staying in session to work on funding bills."I think the Senate ought to be here next week working on the appropriations bills, because we have a short amount of time and a lot of work to get done," Senator John Thune said.Senate Leader Chuck Schumer sent lawmakers home early this week and didn't cancel their scheduled recess for next week."There's no excuse for burning two weeks out of the 45 days we just got last Saturday," Senator John Cornyn said. The House will be in session next week. But after former speaker Kevin McCarthy was ousted, they have to spend time picking a new leader.Congressman Dusty Johnson says that means ever...‘Loki’ review: Oscar-winner Ke Huy Quan joins the Marvel series in a chaotic Season 2

Nina Metz | Chicago TribuneJust two years and three months after “Loki” first premiered on Disney+ — a mere 27 months! — the Marvel series is back for a second season. If you’re detecting sarcasm, there’s the irony that a show about time has really stretched the boundaries of a reasonable gap between seasons. Those more dedicated to the Marvel Cinematic Universe might not see it that way, but it feels like a blunder. The first season built so much momentum, with Tom Hiddleston’s endlessly entertaining Loki, the Norse god of mischief, getting a taste of his own medicine down in the bowels of the Orwellian-sounding Time Variance Authority, before teaming up with Owen Wilson’s laconic TVA agent Mobius M. Mobius to … honestly? Don’t even recall. But the fate of the universe is at stake! And Jonathan Majors’ Kang, the agent of chaos also known as He Who Remains, is somehow at the root of it all.Majors, you may recall, is in the midst of some real world problems of his own. The nation’s employers added 336,000 jobs in September, an unexpectedly robust gain and the largest monthly rise since January, evidence that many companies remain confident enough to keep hiring despite high interest rates and a hazy outlook for the economy.Last month’s job growth jumped from a 227,000 increase in August, which was revised sharply higher. July’s gain was also more than had been initially estimated. The economy has now added an average of 266,000 jobs a month for the past three months, a streak that could make it likelier that the Federal Reserve will raise its key rate again before year’s end as it continues its drive to tame inflation.Friday’s report from the Labor Department also showed that the unemployment rate was unchanged at 3.8%, not far above a half-century low.The job market has defied an array of threats this year, notably high inflation and the rapid series of Fed interest rate hikes that were intended to conquer it. Though the Fed’s h...Chiefs at Vikings: What to know ahead of Week 5 matchup

There’s a good chance the Vikings come in with a game plan of blitzing superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes. If he starts to make them pay at any point, it’s on defensive coordinator Brian Flores to make an adjustment during the game.— Though the Chiefs have proven to be better on defense than some thought, they have yet to face a receiver like Justin Jefferson this season. That shock value might be something the Vikings can take advantage of in a game that has the makings of being a shootout.Keys for the Chiefs— Just don’t force anything on offense. After throwing a pair of interceptions last week, Mahomes knows he needs to be more careful with the ball. If he simply takes what the defense...Law enforcement seize $37K in cash and drugs in Cohoes
