(PIX11) ---- At least one person died and 46 other people were hurt when a charter bus carrying students from Long Island to a band camp overturned down an embankment on a New York highway Thursday afternoon, officials said. The bus crashed on Interstate 84 just outside of Middletown in Orange County at 1:12 p.m., police said. It was one of six buses carrying students from Farmingdale High School to a band camp in Greeley, in northeastern Pennsylvania, according to the school district."We were informed that there had been an accident with Bus 1 en route to Greeley, PA for Band Camp. Nourish NY receives audit; need for more oversight ALBANY, N.Y. (WTEN) -- The Nourish New York program was created during the pandemic as a way to help with the disrupted food chain which is now a permanent program, but a state audit from the Comptroller's Office shows there isn’t enough oversight for Nourish New York. Experts say one in 10 New Yorkers suffer with food insecurity. The program was created to alleviate that issue as well as helping local farmers by connecting them with food banks. "So it provides money for food banks to purchase directly from New York State farmers so they get the freshest produce, they get local milk products that are then distributed to people in need and regional food banks, and in pantries all across the state," explained Steve Ammerman, Director of Communications for the New York Farm Bureau. Prisoner escapes Mercy South Hospital, search ongoing ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - A manhunt continues for a convicted child sex offender who escaped from Mercy South Hospital early Thursday morning. Authorities told FOX 2 that local, state, and federal law officers are all involved with the search for 45-year-old Tommy Wayne Boyd. That search is ongoing both in the air and on the ground. Death penalty sought against man accused of killing Hermann officer GASCONADE COUNTY, Mo. - A man linked to the shooting death of a Hermann officer earlier this year could potentially face a death penalty sentence. Prosecutors filed a "notice of intent to seek the death penalty" earlier this month in the Gasconade County Court against 35-year-old Kenneth Simpson. Simpson is accused of shooting two officers in the line of duty, including one fatally, last March in Hermann, Missouri. The officers were at a Casey’s gas station when they tried to take Simpson into custody on outstanding warrants.
