A lot of big names have spent time with the San Jose Giants on their way to the big leagues, and you can bet they knew Linda Pereira’s name.The woman known as the Patron Saint of Players was honored by the team at Excite Ballpark last Sunday upon her retirement after 52 years of service. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un inspected Russian nuclear-capable strategic bombers and hypersonic missiles on Saturday during a tour of Russia’s eastern region. Kim travelled to the Vladivostok airport where he was shown state-of-the-art bombers and warplanes by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu. Cruise missiles and automatic artillery systems were demonstrated to the North Korean leader, according to a statement from the Russian defense ministry. Massachusetts was spared the worst of Lee Saturday morning as the National Hurricane Center downgraded the storm to a post-tropical cyclone.Lee is still expected to make landfall later in the day in the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. The center of the storm was about 160 miles south-southeast of Eastport, Maine and about 185 miles south-southwest of Halifax, Nova Scotia as of 8 a.m.Maximum sustained winds were recorded at 80 miles per hour and the storm was moving north at 25 miles per hour, according to the National Hurricane Center. Strong winds, coastal flooding, and heavy rains were already occurring in parts of New England and Canada, the centers said.But Boston and much of Massachusetts appeared to be in the clear as the post-tropical cyclone moved further north, National Weather Service Meteorologist Rob Megnia said.
