CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — Former President Donald Trump compared himself to anti-apartheid activist Nelson Mandela on Monday as he cast himself as the victim of federal and state prosecutors he alleges are targeting him and his businesses for political reasons.Returning to New Hampshire to register for its presidential primary, Trump held a rally where he railed against President Joe Biden’s response to the Hamas attack on Israel and vowed to build an Iron Dome-style missile defense shield over the U.S. But he focused much of his dark and at times profane speech on the criminal and civil cases against him, at one point suggesting he would go to prison like the former South African president who spent 27 years in prison for opposing South Africa’s apartheid system and was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize.“I don’t mind being Nelson Mandela because I’m doing it for a reason,” Trump told am amped-up crowd of supporters at a sports complex in Derry, New Hampshire. ”We’ve got to s...Ex-Venezuelan lawmaker Maria Corina Machado dominates opposition’s presidential primary, getting over 1.4 million votes

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — The Detroit Lions have an extra day to prepare for the Las Vegas Raiders next Monday night.Coach Dan Campbell knows how he’s going to use it.In the aftermath of Detroit’s 38-6 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Campbell is going back to the basics.“As you get into the season, you start shaving some practice time on the fundamentals to work a little bit more on the scheme,” he said Monday. “You are hoping you have gotten enough fundamentals through camp, and you know what, we have got to get back to that — that’s where I can help these guys.”Campbell said last Wednesday’s decision to lighten practice might have added to the problem.“I thought it was the right time to back off, but we probably needed a little more,” he said. “We should have gone out and done just a bit of full speed when we were getting ready to play a physical team.”No one expected the NFC North-leading Lions to go 16-1, especially Campbell, but he was upset by the manner o...Seahawks showing signs of having a defense that can win games

RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Bobby Wagner knows what elite defenses look like. He was the anchor in the middle the previous time the Seattle Seahawks had a defense regarded in that way. This current group in Seattle isn’t in that “Legion of Boom” era category. But they are showing characteristics that provide the Seahawks a chance to win even when their offense makes mistakes.“We’re moving in the right direction,” Wagner said. For only the fifth time in franchise history, the Seahawks have held their opponents to 250 yards or fewer in three straight games. The latest game came Sunday when Seattle shut down Arizona in the second half of a 20-10 win over the Cardinals. For the third time in Pete Carroll’s tenure, the Seahawks have gone three straight games holding their opponent under the 250-yard mark. One came in 2014 when Seattle held a staggering six straight opponents under the 250-yard mark. SAN DIEGO (AP) — Landon Donovan’s San Diego Loyal soccer club was born on March 7, 2020, playing its first match a few days before the pandemic shut down the world. It died late on a misty Sunday night on an absolute gut punch of a goal in the 119th minute of a playoff opener. Exhausted, heartbroken players sprawled on the pitch after the final whistle. Their passionate fans, many of whom had been chanting, singing, banging drums, waving flags and setting off green and orange smoke bombs for more than two hours at cozy 6,000-seat Torero Stadium at the University of San Diego, fell silent.Players and fans knew since late August that the second-tier team was going to fold at season’s end, in large part because of the impending arrival of the expansion MLS team San Diego FC in 2025 that will play at 35,000-seat Snapdragon Stadium. Everyone tried to make the best of it, and the independent supporter group The Locals, whose members packed section 109 behind the east goal every match...Giannis Antetokounmpo indicates on social media that he’s agreed to contract extension with Bucks
