San Diego Holocaust survivor to visit Auschwitz SAN DIEGO -- Next week, Ben Midler returns to a harrowing site he will never forget.The 95-year-old San Diego resident is making his way back to the Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland, where around 1.1 million people perished during World War II, according to Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum. The Defense Ministry says the operation was carried out late Friday night within Chinese territory and achieved “the desired test objective.”The test was “defensive in nature and not targeted against any country,” the ministry said, giving no other details such as whether it actually struck an object, how many interceptors were fired and where they landed.
