Isaac Russell campaign asks for full tally of second-choice votes in Ward 3

Isaac Russell, who conceded to fellow St. Paul City Council candidate Saura Jost on election night, has asked for a full count of the election ballots in the four-way race for the Ward 3 seat, including reallocation of second-choice ballots.“Saura has won this election,” said Matthew Sullivan, Russell’s campaign manager, on Thursday. “We conceded. It’s over. We want to see the final count just for confirmation and out of curiosity.”Under the rules of ranked choice voting in St. Paul, a candidate for city council needs 50% of the vote to win outright. No candidate reached that threshold on election night, though Jost came closest by a healthy margin. The ward spans Highland Park, Macalester-Groveland and part of the West Seventh neighborhood.On Tuesday, Jost landed 48.48% of the vote, or 6,390 votes, which is less than 200 votes shy of outright victory. ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - A St. Louis County grand jury has handed down a 15-count indictment on a man accused of firing shots during a Kirkwood trunk-or-treat event last month. Matthew McCulloch, 39, is accused of firing multiple shots at a Halloween-themed event held at North Kirkwood Middle School on Oct. 15. Incumbent Mayor Aaron Brockett, a software developer and small business owner, has pulled into the lead in Boulder’s ranked choice mayoral race.As of 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Brockett led Councilmember Bob Yates with a projected 14,806 votes, representing 50.85% of the total counted, to Yates’ projected 14,309 votes, 49.15% of the total. A man was taken into custody by Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies Thursday morning after the alleged carjacker barricaded himself inside a reported stolen car in La Puente.According to LASD officials, deputies spotted the suspect around 9:15 a.m., driving a vehicle that was reported stolen in the jurisdiction of the Los Angeles Police Department Newton Division.Deputies attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver apparently refused to comply and led authorities on a brief pursuit. The vehicle then crashed into a trailer near the intersection of Sunset and Fairgrove avenues and became disabled, officials said. New details are emerging about the shooting near the parking garage of an Erewhon Market near The Grove last week.Los Angeles Police Department officials told KTLA the shooter and victim knew each other prior to the attack on the afternoon of Nov. 2. Metrolink’s Holiday Express Train will return this holiday season with four new trips and increased capacity, Metrolink announced Thursday.The Holiday Express Train will take place over four Saturdays in November and December at train stations in Perris, Rancho Cucamonga, Simi Valley, Burbank and Laguna Niguel.Tickets for the limited-time event are on sale for $25 per person.
