Ex-NHL player Kyle Quincey is building a psychedelic retreat center in Colorado for athletes, military Hockey player Kyle Quincey began mentally preparing for retirement well before his career was over. The former defenseman, who spent three seasons with the Colorado Avalanche, knew it would be a tough transition since he’d seen others in the National Hockey League struggle to assimilate after dedicating their lives – and bodies – to the sport. But soon after he hung up his jersey in 2019, at the age of 34, Quincey realized that nothing could have adequately equipped him for the emotional instability he experienced after leaving the locker room.“I ended my career in Finland. I came home, I’ve had 20 concussions. I had massive mood swings, from pure euphoria to suicidal thoughts,” Quincey said during a panel at the 43rd Telluride Mushroom Festival in August. “On almost my year anniversary of retiring, my youngest son was diagnosed with brain cancer. And COVID hit the same week.”The Quincey family spent months in hospitals as 1-year-old Axl underwent surgeries, radiation and chemotherap...

One of country’s hottest ramen chains opening in Blackhawk casino Ramen restaurants have seen a surge in popularity over the past three years since the beginning of the pandemic, partly because noodles in steaming broth are comforting, and partly because the dish is something that easily can be packaged up and served to go.The Los Angeles-based chain Jinya Ramen Bar has been a big beneficiary of this, having added 20 locations since the start of 2020 — which brings its total to 57 (many of these are franchised), and the company has said it will open another 25 stores in 2024.Related ArticlesRestaurants, Food and Drink | Blackjack player sues Ameristar Casino, city of Black Hawk over alleged detainment for card counting On Aug. 23, the Japanese-style ramen bar will open a restaurant inside the Ameristar Casino in the gaming town of Black Hawk. Keeler: What do CU Buffs’ Deion Sanders and CSU Rams’ Jay Norvell have in common? Neither is locking gates to keep Colorado prep football recruits at home.

Keeler: What do CU Buffs’ Deion Sanders and CSU Rams’ Jay Norvell have in common? Neither is locking gates to keep Colorado prep football recruits at home. We hoofed it uphill to the unmistakable, creaking aria of an open gate, hinges hee-hawing like a cartoon burro in the breeze. The lock was rusted and busted. In the field where we expected to find Colorado’s best prep football talent grazing, we instead found a half-dozen Nebraska Cornhuskers stickers, a few copies of Bill Snyder’s autobiography and about four thick chains with a giant Iowa State logo dangling at the end.Which explains, at least in part, how the heck Jackson Cowgill got out in the first place.“I did talk with (Karl) Dorrell’s staff and (also) when (Mike) Sanford was interim coach,” Cowgill, a 6-foot-5 defensive lineman out of Erie and three-star commit bound for Washington State, told me recently. “(CU) invited me to several events and they were kind of looking at me for a while.”Then the gate swung wide open. Again.“I (was told the Buffs) actually told one of my trainers, told them I was not ‘athletic enough’ to play at the next level. (The Buffs) had doubts a...

Erie quarterback Blake Barnett is done losing sleep over past two postseason heartbreaks as he looks to guide Tigers to 4A crown

Erie quarterback Blake Barnett is done losing sleep over past two postseason heartbreaks as he looks to guide Tigers to 4A crown For all the success and meteoric-like rise Blake Barnett has experienced in his two seasons as Erie’s starting quarterback, it’s the losses that linger.Between the Tigers’ gut-wrenching defeat vs. Chatfield in the 2021 Class 4A title game, and the goal line fumble that kept them from advancing past eventual state champion Broomfield in last year’s semifinals, Barnett admits he’s “lost a lot of sleep” pondering what could have been.Yet going through all of that heartbreak has provided lessons the senior quarterback is eager to use this fall to lift the state title that’s eluded he and his teammates each of the past two years.“I like to say I don’t hold onto grudges, but you always have to care about the losses more than the wins, because at the end of the day it’s where you learn the most from,” Barnett told The Post.“All the greats have lost countless games, Tom Brady’s lost Super Bowls, AFC Championship games. I’m no...

Opinion: No Labels wants a bipartisan dream ticket for president. Who would you pick?

Opinion: No Labels wants a bipartisan dream ticket for president. Who would you pick? It’s no wonder Americans are so disillusioned with politics. We have two parties held captive by extremist voices, unable to work together to solve our most basic problems. These parties seem determined to give us two choices — Trump and Biden — that no one wants for a second time. But what if we could start with a blank page and rethink our political status quo? Which candidates would we choose to lead us?When I talk to people about the next presidential election, I ask them who would be on their dream ticket, and they always get excited thinking about it. When I want to make it even more interesting, I ask them to choose one person from each party — any two leaders who they think could bring this country back together and lead us to a great and unified future. On the Republican side, I’ve heard names like former Governors Doug Ducey of Arizona and Mitch Daniels of  Indiana, former Senator Rob Portman from Ohio, former Navy Four Star Admiral William McRaven, current U.S. ...

Walters: California Democrats emulate Ohio GOP on tax limit ballot measure

Walters: California Democrats emulate Ohio GOP on tax limit ballot measure A chess move by California Capitol leadership last week could undercut a pending ballot measure seeking to restrict new taxes. A similar strategy was used by Republicans in Ohio attempting to restrict abortion rights.A couple of weeks ago, Ohio voters rejected a constitutional amendment, proposed by Republican legislators, that would have raised the vote requirement for passing constitutional amendments from a simple majority to 60%.It was clearly an effort to undermine a pro-abortion amendment on next year’s ballot. The outcome was somewhat surprising in a state that has been dominated by Republicans in recent years. President Joe Biden hailed the rejection, calling it a “blatant attempt to weaken voters’ voices and further erode the freedom of women to make their own health care decisions.”Ever since the U.S. Supreme Court reversed itself on abortion rights last year and allowed states to have the last word on the legality of pregnancy terminations, the issue has been fought out s...
