Denver leaders on Thursday will announce plans to revive a joint committee with Denver Public Schools that the city hopes will improve communication with the district, a move that already is highlighting tensions with school leaders.Board of Education President Xóchitl “Sochi” Gaytán expressed concerns about the ordinance that will go before the City Council’s safety committee next week, saying she does not believe the city should require DPS directors or the superintendent to meet with the committee.School board members also said that while DPS has worked with the city on revising language in the proposal, they have not seen the final draft and were unaware of the news conference with Mayor Mike Johnston scheduled for Thursday until contacted by a reporter.“The city and school district need to have a partnership that is mutually agreed upon,” said board Vice President Auon’tai Anderson, adding, “I also want to ensure that we are being cautious with what the district is agreei...“Adventurous” Japanese restaurant opening in former Tony P’s space in Denver

It wasn’t a distraction so much as a confirmation that the tragedy that led playwright Moisés Kaufman and a team of fellow theater makers from his company, Tectonic Theater Project, to descend upon Laramie, Wyo., with compassionate and questioning hearts remains rending. And given the uptick in violence directed at people who identify as LGBTQ+, its lessons remain timely. On Oct. 12, it will have been 25 years to the day that Matthew Shepard died at Fort Collins’ Poudre Valley Hospital, where he was taken after being robbed, severely beaten and left tied to a wood-railing fence outside Laramie. BENTONVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Walmart will be closed on Thanksgiving Day for the fourth year in a row, the company's U.S. president and CEO John Furner announced in a LinkedIn post on Monday. "Thanksgiving is a special day, and we want our store associates to have the chance to spend it with their families and loved ones," Furner said. "We have so much to be thankful for, and I'm especially grateful for our associates." Sam’s Club cuts membership to $15 before the holidays For decades, Walmart stores had typically remained open on Thanksgiving Day to kick off the holiday shopping season. Then, the COVID-19 pandemic happened. The retail giant parted with tradition in 2020 and made the decision to close its stores on Thanksgiving to express gratitude to its staff and give workers a break. USA TODAY reported that 2020 was the first year Walmart closed its stores for this particular holiday since the late 1980s. This year, Walmart will be open regular hours the day before and after T...Red Alert: Vixen is Back with a Bang

Red Alert: Ironically enough, when Vixen released its new single “Red” last week, it came out of the blue. Their last single was “You Ought to Know By Now” from 2018’s Live Fire. The last studio album was Live & Learn in 2006, though only late guitarist and founding member Jan Kuehnemund was on that record from the classic lineup. Not a single musician on Live & Learn is a member of Vixen 2023.The lineup has shifted dramatically. Iconic singer Janet Gardner left (again) in 2019, while classic lineup bassist Share Pederson went on Hiatus in March of 2022. That has left drummer Roxy Petrucci to fly the flag, and you can kinda understand the cynicism from some quarters. “Just the drummer,” they say. “That’s not Vixen.” As is always the case with these reunions, the proof is in the pudding.Petrucci has assembled a killer band to carry Vixen forward. Guitarist Britt Lightning and bassist Julia Lage are technically gifted players, both blessed with the appropriate rock ‘n’ roll sw...Dark Harvest: Children of the Gore

Director David Slade’s new Halloween horror movie, Dark Harvest (MGM Studios) has moments of visual verve and a cool pumpkin-headed demon ready to wreak havoc, but a confusing back story undercuts the story’s fright factor. That’s too bad because this home rental release, set in the 1960s, looks great and has a trio of gifted veteran actors in lead roles. They’re probably here less for the script than to work with the director of the underappreciated, but truly scary vampire film, 30 Days of Night, as well as Twilight: Eclipse.Based on an acclaimed 2006 short novel by Norman Partridge, adapted by screenwriter Michael Gilio (Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves), Dark Harvest opens on a Midwest farm town in 1963. It’s a place where the corn crows high, the boys dress like they’re auditioning for Grease and where Kelly (a winning E’myri Crutchfield), the only African American student in the high school, doesn’t dare dream of being asked to the town dance. All decisions are made...Sit or Stand? Theater chain sets guidelines for Taylor Swift The Eras Tour concert film opening today

On opening day of Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour concert film, Swifties are hotly debating whether they should sing, stand and dance or sit in their seats during the theater experience.Swift announced late Wednesday that the film would be released a day early on Thursday. “Due to unprecedented demand we’re opening up early access showings of The Eras Tour Concert Film on THURSDAY in America and Canada!!,” she wrote on Instagram. The debate has raged in Reddit forums whether fans should carry on like they would at a concert, which some called “completely inappropriate,” to those who plan to cheer in front of the movie screen. After all, when the concert film was first announced, Swift did say “Eras attire, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing encouraged.”The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far and I’m overjoyed to tell you that it’ll be coming to the big screen soon Starting Oct 13th you’ll be able to experience the concert fil...Why Tesla isn’t unionized

By Nathaniel Meyersohn | CNNNew York — Tesla has beaten back previous efforts by workers to unionize – but the United Auto Workers hopes a successful strike against Ford, General Motors and Stellantis could help it organize at Tesla.UAW membership has declined in recent decades, and the auto industry is moving to electric vehicles. EV battery and production plants thus far in the United States are mostly non-union. To grow, the UAW will have to make inroads at EV plants.“Tesla is the biggest threat in the long term to UAW wages and benefits. UAW doesn’t have any choice but to take on [Tesla],” said John Logan, a professor of labor and employment studies at San Francisco State University.Tesla controls around 60% of the electric vehicle market in the United States, and Detroit and foreign automakers in the South are racing to catch up.
