Wildfires on Colorado’s Western Slope have burned over 10,000 acres About a dozen wildfires are burning in Colorado, with most on the Western Slope, where more than 10,000 combined acres have been torched.Little Mesa fireThe Little Mesa fire, about 15 miles southwest of Delta in the Dominguez Escalante National Conservation Area, has burned 3,677 acres, about 5.7 square miles, according to fire officials. The fire, sparked by lightning July 31, is burning through piñon, juniper, sagebrush and grass. More than 60 firefighters are working on the fire, which is 30% contained.No evacuations have been ordered because of the fire.Quartz Ridge fireThe Quartz Ridge fire, about 13 miles northeast of Pagosa Springs, has burned 1,475 acres, and there is no containment on the fire, fire officials said on InciWeb on Friday. 2 wounded in South Central shooting Two people were taken to the hospital by ambulance Friday evening after they were shot in South Central Los Angeles.The shooting happened around 5:20 p.m., near the intersection of Vermont Avenue and 83rd Street in the Vermont Knolls neighborhood.The Los Angeles Police Department responded to the scene and requested ambulances for the two victims, whose conditions were unclear.Police have not released any information about the moments leading up to the shooting or the motive. An arrest has not been made, but the suspect has been described as a Hispanic man in his early 20s who was last seen wearing a gray shirt and blue jeans.He was seen fleeing in an unknown direction, according to LAPD Media Relations.The shooting remains under investigation and anyone with information is urged to contact the LAPD's 24-hour anonymous tip line at 1-877-527-3247.Additional reporting by Sam Bader.

Phone scammer caught impersonating sheriff's captain — by the captain himself ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — A scammer was caught in the act by the man he was trying to impersonate.  The real Capt. Chris Gulli, with the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, said he got word a scammer was pretending to be him, contacting several people about an arrest warrant and demanding money.  Sheriff warns of scammers meeting with older victims, bilking thousands “They prey on people’s fears,” Gulli said. So he decided to give the scammer a call. "Nine times out of 10, they never pick up. And this is the one time the guy picked up and said, 'Captain Chris Gulli, Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office.'
