Kiszla: Every win by Deion Sanders and Buffs forces Boulder to change the way it looks at itself in the mirror

BOULDER – The Buffs are back, and they’re the new black. CU is an overnight sensation, the new “it” team, the hottest thing not only in college football, but all of American sports. But stop at the happy news on the Folsom Field scoreboard, after this 36-14 trampling of the Nebraska Corn on a sun-soaked Saturday, and you miss the real story here.“We are going to make an impact. It is hard to say what that means and what that is,” said Sanders, before revealing that he seeks something more profound than national television exposure and new revenue overflowing CU’s coffers.“Really, I am thinking about the social impact. I am seeing more African Americans than I have never seen before, sprinkling through the stands, stadium, restaurants and everything. And I love it.”The real magic of the 2-0 start of Coach Prime is how the shiny gold chain around his neck and the bodacious Turnover Throne on his CU sideline have shook the old-school culture of snow-white Boulder, built on Birkenstocks...1 shot in Panorama City, suspects at large

SAN FRANCISCO — The plan communicated to Ross Stripling when the Giants placed him on the injured list in mid-August to heal his nagging back, he said, was “to take 15 days on this to be ready for September 1 and get it right for the home stretch.”Well, the home stretch is here. Stripling made it clear he’s healthy. And it’s been more than week since he was eligible to be activated. If you’re wondering what the deal is, so is Stripling.“I’m just in limbo,” he told the Bay Area News Group in an interview before Saturday’s game. “Where I’m at is I’m frustrated with the situation because I’m ready to help a team that’s fighting for a playoff chance win baseball games. I’ve thrown a lot of very meaningful September innings for playoff teams and teams chasing playoff spots and I know what it takes to get outs at this stage of the season and I’m just watching from the sideline.”Manager Gabe Kapler said, “we actually have a p...Bay Area woman wins Global Lion Dance Competition

(CNN) — Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis have shared a video in which they said they are “aware of the pain” they caused by writing letters on behalf of Danny Masterson ahead of his rape conviction sentencing.Kunis and Kutcher, who co-starred with Masterson on “That ’70s Show,” were among nearly 50 people who advocated for leniency for the actor before he was sentenced Thursday to 30 years to life in prison for raping two women in 2003.Masterson has maintained his innocence and plans to appeal his case.In their video shared on Instagram on Saturday, Kutcher said Masterson’s family asked them to write character letters describing “the person that we knew for 25 years so that the judge could take that into full consideration relative to the sentencing.”“The letters were not written to question the legitimacy of the judicial system or the validity of the jury’s ruling,” Kunis said.In their letters to court, the couple vouched for Masterson’s character.“I do not be...Saturday’s high school football scores and highlights

Gunnar Henderson and Jordan Westburg are the Orioles’ two youngest position players. Aaron Hicks and James McCann are their two oldest. That quartet combined for five home runs, two by McCann, in a 13-12 victory over the Boston Red Sox, an offensive output that helped cover for another poor start from trade acquisition Jack Flaherty and a shaky night for the Orioles’ bullpen and defense.
