NEW YORK (AP) — In what amounted to a concession speech with the New York Yankees on the verge of their longest losing streak in a century, general manager Brian Cashman proclaimed the season “a disaster” and “an embarrassment” that will lead to job assessments of himself and manager Aaron Boone.New York (61-65), which began the season with baseball’s second-highest payroll at $275 million, ended its first nine-game losing streak in 41 years by beating Washington 9-1 Wednesday night on the strength of Aaron Judge’s first three-homer game. Still, the Yankees are on track for their first losing season since 1992.“It’s been a disaster this season. Yes, definitely a shock,” Cashman said during a 22-minute pregame news conference. “We’re embarrassed by it.”New York hit .176 during the slide with 21 runs but avoided what would have been its first 10-game skid since May 21 to June 6, 1913, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.“We’re really obviously disappoint...Trial for suspect in Idaho student stabbings postponed after right to speedy trial waived

DENVER (KDVR) -- Coloradans have good credit, but they pay for it. Economic and social disruptions aside, there were some benefits U.S. households reaped from the COVID-19 pandemic. Stimulus checks and other financial relief racked up in 2020 and 2021, increasing the level of household savings and debt repayment. A new study of financial data by Upgraded Points shows that delinquencies on loans decreased during the pandemic. Only in one state — North Dakota — did credit scores not increase between 2019 and 2022. In Colorado, the average credit score rose from 718 in 2019 to 730 in 2022, the nation's 14th-highest credit score. How common is your name in Colorado? However, Coloradans also have more debt than most states. Upgraded Points' study also examined the average household's debt-to-income ratio in 2022. This measures how much of a household's income goes toward debt repayment. Higher scores mean households pay a greater share of their income. Colorado has the nation's sixth-...Fort Lauderdale Police officer who responded to July 4th diving accident that left swimmer paralyzed speaks out

Officer-worn body camera video captured the heart-stopping moments when first responders came to the rescue of a swimmer who became paralyzed after diving off the coast of South Florida. Now one of the responding police officers is sharing her story.Speaking with 7News, Fort Lauderdale Police Officer Dianna Rose described the moment she first heard about the incident at the Fort Lauderdale sandbar on the busy Fourth of July holiday.“While we were headed out there, there was another call that came in through dispatch that somebody had a neck and head injury,” she said. “To me, I thought this might be somebody who’s paralyzed.”“Is he intoxicated and possibly drunk, or did he actually dive in?” Rose asked a witness.“I don’t know. What I heard, he jumped off the front of the boat, and he dove in head first,” said the witness.“A lot of people didn’t actually know who he was,” said Rose. “They pulled him o...Masks, lockdowns, social distancing: ‘Unequivocal’ evidence that measures reduced COVID-19 spread

Speedy implementation of a combination of measures such as face masks, lockdowns and international border controls, “unequivocally” reduced COVID-19 infections, a major review has shown. The report published Thursday by the Royal Society looked at findings from six evidence reviews that analyzed thousands of studies to assess the effect of masks, social distancing and lockdowns, test trace and isolate systems, border controls, environmental controls and communications. It found evidence that each of these measures — which are called “non-pharmaceutical interventions” — were effective, albeit to varying degrees, when looked at individually. However, the evidence in favor of using these tools was stronger when countries combined several measures. The report could have significant implications for decision-making in future outbreaks, with Mark Walport, chair of the report’s expert working group and foreign secretary of the Royal Society, saying that “having protocols in adv...Latest news
