APD investigating body found in Lady Bird Lake near Longhorn Dam AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department is investigating where a body was recovered Saturday from Lady Bird Lake near Longhorn Dam. Austin-Travis County EMS said it was called to the scene at 1:18 p.m. where an adult was pronounced dead. PREVIOUS: City to focus on safety near Rainey Street after recent deaths More information is expected at an APD press conference Saturday evening. Longhorn Dam is not next to the area where the city increased safety measures following two recent drownings near Lady Bird Lake and Rainey Street. Police said there is no evidence of foul play in these deaths. Increased patrols began last weekend. APD Assistant Chief Jeff Greenwalt told KXAN officers performed standard downtown duties like breaking up fights and, in one instance, helped a group find their friend they hadn't been able to find for a couple of hours.This is a developing story. San Jose: CHP investigates dead body found near downtown freeways SAN JOSE — The California Highway Patrol is investigating the circumstances surrounding a dead body that was found near a busy freeway interchange next to downtown San Jose a few blocks from an elementary school.The body was found Saturday around 9 a.m., according to the CHP.Local authorities discovered the deceased individual in the area of the 500 block of Minor Avenue in the vicinity of the interchange of Interstate 280 and State Route 87 next to downtown San Jose.The case was turned over to the CHP because the body was found on property owned by the state Transportation Department, or Caltrans.It appeared that the deceased individual had gained access to an area beneath the interchange prior to the person’s death, according to a CHP official.The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office was attempting to determine the cause of death. Doctor group says at least 26 killed in Sudan fighting KHARTOUM, Sudan (AP) — A Sudan doctors’ group said at least 26 people were killed and 103 wounded in fighting Saturday between the country’s army and a powerful paramilitary force. The deaths occurred in areas around the country, including the capital city, Khartoum and its sister city Omdurman, the Sudan Doctors’ Syndicate said in a statement. Many of the the wounded were located in southwestern Sudan. The violence comes after months of escalating tensions between the armed forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces and years of political unrest since an October 2021 military coup.
