The Temecula Valley Unified School District board is facing controversy yet again, this time being accused of using a soccer-style yellow/red card system to stifle public comment in violation of the First Amendment and California's open meetings law.Upneed Dhaliwal and Julie Geary have filed suit against the district, the board and President Joseph Komrosky individually after he "repeatedly ordered numerous members of the public, including Plaintiffs, removed from Board meetings when they were not engaged in disruptive conduct," the plaintiffs said in a lawsuit filed on Thursday. The lawsuit was first reported by Seamus Hughes' Court Watch. Conservative member leaves Temecula school board As part of what the plaintiffs called "an innovative approach to expelling members of the public from open Board meetings," Komrosky allegedly instituted the new rules in June."What I’m gonna do tonight, we’ll do something new to save time," the lawsuit quotes Komrosky as saying. SANTA CLARA — Maybe Christmas night will be when we find out if the 49ers are up to the task of gritting out a difficult win against high-quality opposition.Based on what the 49ers have shown us so far in 2023, it’s more likely they’ll dispatch the Baltimore Ravens with the kind of precision and execution they’ve displayed in previous games where it appeared they were in for a down-to-the-wire battle. It’s clear the 49ers (11-3) have a healthy respect for Baltimore (11-3), which at the moment is also the top seed in its conference and bidding to get a first-round bye and then home-field advantage until Super Bowl LVIII on Feb. 11 in Las Vegas. They could conceivably meet again there. The 49ers also had a healthy respect for the Pittsburgh Steelers in their regular season opener on the road . . .Final: 49ers 30, Steelers 7Significance: Pittsburgh is 7-7 now, but is very tough at home and there’s an element of unknown with any opener. LOS ANGELES — A federal appeals court on Thursday revived a child sexual exploitation lawsuit filed by the man who appeared naked as a 4-month-old on the cover of Nirvana’s 1991 album “Nevermind.”Spencer Elden’s lawsuit against the grunge rock group alleges that he has suffered “permanent harm” as the band and others profited from the image of him underwater in a swimming pool, appearing to grab for a dollar bill on a fish hook. The suit says the image violated federal laws on child sexual abuse material, although no criminal charges were ever sought.A federal judge in California threw out the lawsuit last year but allowed Elden to file a revised version, which the judge later dismissed on grounds that it was outside the 10-year statute of limitations of one of the laws used as a cause of action.Related ArticlesMusic | Unforgettable: These famous people died in 2023 Music | A final goodbye: Notable Bay Area residents who died in 2023 Music | ...Bay Area office complex is bought in deal that points to weak property values

The crime rates remained elevated in dozens of cities around the country.Personal finance site MoneyGeek used the FBI crime data to look at crime rates in 302 large cities and 1,010 small cities and towns around the country. They looked at both violent crime and property crime, and used research by the University of Miami and the University of Colorado Denver to determine the cost of crime in each area. After crunching the numbers, the large city with the highest cost of crime was Birmingham, Alabama. The violent crime rate – which includes instances of murder, manslaughter, rape, robbery and aggravated assault – in Birmingham was 1,682 per 100,000 residents.
