Rockies’ ride Ryan Feltner’s excellent start to win over Guardians

CLEVELAND — In the middle of April, right-hander Ryan Feltner looked like part of the Rockies’ problem. Now he’s pitching like he just might be part of the solution.Feltner was outstanding Tuesday night in Colorado’s 5-1 victory over the Guardians at Progressive Field, yielding just one unearned run on five hits over six innings. The Rockies beat the Guardians for the second game in a row to clinch the three-game series and give the Rockies their first series victory of the season.Feltner received a big boost from a grizzly veteran — 36-year-old designated hitter Charlie Blackmon — and a fresh-from-the-farm rookie — 24-year-old center fielder Brenton Doyle.Blackmon led off the game with a home run and added an RBI double and scored a run in Colorado’s three-run second. His leadoff homer was the 40th of his career, moving up to ninth all-time in major league history. His two runs scored gave him 892 for his career, tying him with Hall of...Campaign finance violation complaint against Calderón, CdeBaca dismissed

A campaign finance complaint alleging Denver mayoral candidate Lisa Calderón and incumbent City Councilwoman Candi CdeBaca circumvented city law by sharing polling data and other resources without properly documenting it on campaign finance reports was dismissed for lack of evidence.Hearing officer Macon Cowles found that the complaint filed by Kwon Atlas, CdeBaca’s then-opponent in the race for the City Council District 9 seat, in late March failed to meet standards to demonstrate that the two candidates violated general campaign finance regulations.Atlas contended that Calderón and CdeBaca using the polling data without recording it was an in-kind contribution to their campaigns and violated election law even if it came before Calderón filed her candidate paperwork. The value of the polling data also may have exceeded campaign contribution limits for candidates participating in the city’s Fair Election Fund program.Cowles explained his decision to dismiss the complaint...Hospital seeks help identifying patient found in Los Angeles County

SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco Giants have never played before an announced crowd smaller than 20,000 since they moved into their China Basin ballpark more than two decades ago. They certainly came close Monday in their series-opening game against the St. Louis Cardinals.A crowd of 20,203, the smallest attendance figure of the season at Oracle Park, watched Alex Cobb’s complete game shutout Monday night as the Giants beat the Cardinals 4-0.The crowd was the smallest to watch a Giants game at the park, which opened in 2000, since May 9 of last season when 20,039 were in attendance for a game with the Colorado Rockies. It was one of four times in 2022 that the Giants had announced a crowd of less than 21,000.Still, Giants CEO Larry Baer isn’t sounding the alarm, at least not yet. The Giants, through 11 home games this season, are averaging 30,616 per game, which ranks 13th in MLB and is roughly the same as last season’s average attendance of 30,650, which was 12th-best.“...Albany police seek public's help catching trespassers

CHARLOTTE. N.C. (AP) — Carolina Panthers coach Frank Reich says he and general manager Scott Fitterer have agreed on which quarterback the team will select with the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft. But Reich says the team won’t announce who that is until Thursday night, when the draft begins. The Panthers are choosing between Alabama’s Bryce Young, Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud, Kentucky’s Will Levis and Florida’s Anthony Richardson in an effort to upgrade a quarterback position that has been in transition for the last five seasons.Fitterer said last week he had waited to ask Reich who he preferred at No. 1 so that nothing would cloud either decision-maker’s judgement. But on Monday Fitterer finally walked into Reich’s office and popped the question on who he prefers — and both agreed on the same QB.“It was kind of like a proposal — and I said yes,” Reich joked Tuesday. “But there is consensus and we are excited.”Young remains the overwhelming favorite to be the first Panthers QB selected No. ...Roberts declines Senate request to testify on court ethics

WASHINGTON (AP) — Chief Justice John Roberts has declined a request from the Senate Judiciary Committee to testify at a hearing next week on ethical standards at the court, instead providing the panel with a statement of ethics reaffirmed by the court’s nine justices. Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Dick Durbin, D-Ill., invited Roberts’ testimony last week, saying that there had been a “steady stream of revelations” regarding Supreme Court justices “falling short of ethical standards expected of other federal judges.” The invitation came after news reports that detailed a close relationship between Justice Clarence Thomas and a conservative donor from Texas. The donor, Dallas billionaire Harlan Crow, had purchased three properties belonging to Thomas and his family in a transaction worth more than $100,000 that Thomas never reported, according to the nonprofit investigative journalism organization ProPublica. In a letter to Durbin on Tuesday, Roberts said he would “re...Jets GM: Getting Rodgers is ‘historic’ trade for franchise

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — General manager Joe Douglas kicked off the New York Jets’ pre-draft news conference by having a young fan answer the first few questions from reporters.Kyle Stickles, a Make-A-Wish recipient from Ghent, New York, was sitting between Douglas and assistant GM Rex Hogan when he was asked who the 15th overall pick by his favorite team should be.“I mean, we definitely don’t need a quarterback,” 13-year-old Kyle said, smiling. You’ve got that right, kid.The Jets agreed on a deal Monday to acquire Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers, a franchise-altering move that brings the four-time NFL MVP to a team that has the league’s longest postseason drought at 12 years. It came more than six weeks after the 39-year-old Rodgers said during an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” on YouTube and SiriusXM on March 15 he intended to continue his playing career — and for the Jets.Douglas called it an “honor” to have a player of Rodgers’ ca...2023 Women’s World Cup Glance
