Contra Costa College football coaching legend Vince Maiorana died last Thursday afternoon at the age of 92, his son Mark told this news organization.Maiorana led the football program from 1957 to 1980, coaching future NFL players, including Travis Williams, whose four kick return touchdowns as a rookie still stand as an NFL single-season record.Maiorana is slated to be a member of the California Community College Hall of Fame class next year, and was named to the CCC Football Coaches Association’s hall in 1998.He took over as the coach of a downtrodden school and vaulted CCC to back-to-back league championships in the early 1960s, then won five more league titles in the 1970s.Vince Maiorana, longtime Contra Costa College football coach, at his last game. ROCHESTER, Minn. — A Mayo Clinic physician who told people his wife died of a rare autoimmune disorder is now accused of fatally poisoning her.Connor Bowman, 30, is charged with felony second-degree murder with intent but not premeditated.His wife, Betty Bowman, 32, died in August after being hospitalized for diarrhea and dehydration.The couple, who had been married two years, lived in Rochester and both worked at the Mayo Clinic, she as a pharmacist and he as a resident in internal medicine.Betty Bowman went to an emergency room on Aug. 16 with symptoms similar to severe food poisoning, and she was hospitalized. College can be expensive for many families, but one local college is getting a huge donation to help students deal with rising costs.Hood College, an independent liberal arts college in Frederick, Maryland, just received a $54 million donation from the Hodson Trust, the largest donation in the institution’s history.College president Andrea Chapdelaine told WTOP that the trust was founded by Col.
