INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana’s Legislature trampled upon the rights of young transgender patients and their parents with a new law aiming to ban them from accessing puberty blockers, hormones and gender-affirming surgeries, an attorney told a federal judge Wednesday.A federal judge in Indianapolis made no immediate ruling after hearing about 90 minutes of arguments from the Indiana attorney general’s office and the American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana, which is seeking a preliminary injunction that would stop the law from taking effect July 1. The group filed its lawsuit, on behalf of four transgender patients and an Indiana doctor who provides transgender medical treatment, within hours after Republican Gov. Eric Holcomb signed the bill April 5.The lawsuit says the ban violates the U.S. Constitution’s equal protection guarantees as well as federal laws regarding essential medical services, and wrongly prohibits Indiana doctors from communicating with out-of-state...Liberty Hill to make Pride proclamation

An Orlando police officer is facing charges after fleeing a traffic stop near Oviedo last week while driving in his agency-issued cruiser, according to the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office.Officer Alexander Shaouni was stopped by a Seminole County deputy sheriff last Tuesday for driving about 80 mph in a 45 mph zone while driving east on Florida Avenue without his siren or emergency lights on. The deputy sped to catch up with Shaouni, pulling him over on De Leon Street and angling in front of the police cruiser to make the stop.Body camera video, which blurs Shaouni’s face, shows the officer was upset that he was pulled over, telling the deputy he was driving into work.“What does it look like I am dressed for?” Shaouni said. The deputy replied, “Let me see your driver’s license.”“No,” Shaouni said, before getting back into his cruiser and driving off with his lights flashing.Court records show he was charged with fleeing a law enforcement officer, reckless driving, speeding and resi...Area contractor arrested in connection to employee death

Sean Payton made it clear Wednesday he likes the way his coaching staff is operating through the first three phases of the offseason and this week’s minicamp. The first-year Broncos coach has a mix of veterans and young coaches among his group and two holdovers from 2022 — defensive backs coach Christian Parker and defensive line coach Marcus Dixon.“There’s three or four coaches on this staff and maybe more that will end up being head coaches,” Payton said. “For me, as long as I’ve done this, you want to see those guys have success. I love seeing Dan Campbell and what he’s doing in Detroit, Doug Marrone, Dennis Allen, a number of coaches go on to positions and fulfill their goals.“That’s what we’re trying to do. … I think we have a lot of talent on this staff and it takes that to be successful.”Parker and assistant special teams coach Chris Banjo are among the up-and-comers Payton has already had high praise for — he called Banjo “extremely talented” on Wednesday — and in the past ha...Davis Webb wanted Broncos QB coach job “really, really bad.” Why? Davis Webb’s offseason was headed one of two ways.Either Sean Payton would hire him as Denver’s quarterbacks coach or he was going to try to play quarterback again in 2023.Not exactly a traditional fork in the road, mind you, but Webb hoped to make the jump into coaching.“When I interviewed, I told myself, my girlfriend, my family, ‘If I don’t get this job, I’m going to start working out tomorrow,’” he said Wednesday in his first time talking with reporters since landing the job earlier this year. “This was a one-and-done deal. I wanted this job really, really bad and if I got it I was going to roll with it and if I didn’t, I was going to keep playing and be a free agent.”Webb, 28, now finds himself in charge of a room featuring Russell Wilson at the top and Jarrett Stidham in the No. 2 spot. Webb turned down Buffalo’s quarterback coaching job a year ago to play in 2022 back in New York for Giants head coach Brian Daboll, who had been Webb’s offensive coordinator in Buff...Denver Nuggets’ first NBA championship by the numbers

Southern California officials are again warning the public about antisemitic flyers and posters that have been placed in public areas and on doorsteps in several cities.Earlier this week, several plastic bags containing leaflets with antisemitic messages were left on driveways of homes throughout the city of Redlands in San Bernardino County. One resident apparently told the Greater Los Angeles Area office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-LA) that it was the second times they've experienced something like that in the last several years. The San Bernardino Police Department is investigating the leaflets, and CAIR released a statement in which it loudly condemned the hateful media and called on anyone with information to come forward.“We are extremely alarmed by this disturbing show of antisemitism. Hate has no place in our society, much less in our neighborhoods and homes, where people should feel safe, respected, and free from discrimination," said CAIR-LA Executive...Latest news
